Etched Recycled Windows, LEDs, 2020- When the COVID-19 pandemic began, it quickly became necessary to accommodate my process to one that required extremely little funds or machinery. I found people who had replaced the windows of their home and were throwing away the old ones- I ended up with quite a substantial amount of recycled windows. I’m mesmerized by how the aesthetic quality of veins mirrors that of tree roots and branches, as well as the physical attributes that protect my heart.

Oil on canvas 2023- I wonder what would have come of our unoccupied man-made creations if the pandemic had continued to confine people indoors. I can imagine that the once bustling office buildings and storefronts may gradually fall into disrepair. Meanwhile, nature could have seized the opportunity to reclaim its space. The contrast between human absence and nature's resurgence highlights the delicate balance between humans and the natural world, emphasizing how quickly the environment can heal when given the chance.

oil on canvas 2023- This painting is about nature’s reclamation of man-made objects and spaces. I find inspiration in nature’s sheer determination to thrive despite obstacles, however human activity causing climate change may be detrimental for many species. I hope that one day we can live in a world where humans live in reciprocity with the land.
The Artist
Annaleah Moon Gregoire is a mixed-media artist based in Western Massachusetts. After graduating with a B.F.A. in sculpture from California College of the Arts in 2021, Annaleah dove into a full-time fine art career in congruence with teaching art privately and in schools.
