Open Wide
Cast Bronze- "Open Wide" captures the visceral emotions that I associated with dental experiences.
The wide-open mouth conveys a range of emotions—fear, discomfort, and perhaps even a sense of catharsis. It serves as a reminder that vulnerability can be transformed into a source of strength. To begin the process, I created a mold of the inside of my mouth using alginate.
This is the same material that is used to take molds of teeth at the dentist. The alginate captured every intricate detail, from the shape of my teeth to the contours of my gums and tongue. From the alginate mold, I carefully crafted a plaster cast to create a base for the final bronze casting.
